Billionaires, Economics

Billionaires make the economy tick . . . like Lyme Disease.

Maxim: Billionaires make the economy tick . . . like Lyme Disease

Effect: Funny, double meaning of tick, turn of a phrase.

Purpose: Meant to counter the belief that billionaires are a benefit to the economy.  Debunks trickle down.  Brings attention to the parasitic nature of billionaires.

Substitutions:  For “Republicans,'” may substitute “Libertarians'” or “Conservatives.'”

Explained:  Thomas Picketty has stated that billionaires are economically useless.  In actuality, they are worse than useless.  The cost to society of allowing a billionaire class is the loss of opportunity for many talented young people, medical bankruptcies, under-funded public institutions, rampant homelessness.
