Maxim: The term “Green New Deal” is an unfortunate diminution – certain to alienate a third of the public – of what is simply the modern 21st century economy, regardless of environmental motives.

Effect / Purpose: “Green New Deal” has been getting a lot of promotion in progressive circles and a lot of derision in conservative circles.  The term’s emphasis is on the environment, which unfortunately implies economic sacrifice to a good sized portion of the public.  But that misses the point entirely.  This sentences attempts reverse the equation.  This is where the modern economy is headed whether you want to be green or not.  Lead the pack, or follow.

Explanation: Climate change is fact. Dealing with it is unavoidable. As economies and capital investment goes, it’s as close to a sure bet as there ever is.  Whoever leads in it will be the leader of the 21st century economy. Betting on coal and petrol is a fool’s venture.
